Dodging Cupid

lyrics

She grew up in the nineties with all its affected disaffection
followed by millinnial pop with its syrupy confections
her mother named her Judy she was a real big fan of Garland
and thought it was out of vogue 'round then the name was strong and solid

Judy hated classrooms said they just made her feel lonely
her IQ was through the roof but the standardized tests didn't notice
Judy finished high school and spent about a week in college
finally gave up on school said she felt her brain had been held hostage

And Judy just keeps looking for Cupid
but she remains beyond his sites
the target on her heart has faded
and she's lost the sun in the lights

Judy liked to do the crossword said she likes to play with letters
and though she seldom finished them she was always getting better
she liked her coffee caucasion with just a little sweet and low
she liked to sit cup in hands and sip on it nice and slow

she had a little breakfast nook with a window out on the courtyard
she'd sit beneath the Sunday sun and deal the solitaire cards
she had a calico tabby that she'd named after Billy Shears
but he was so independent that he seldom ever came too near

so Judy just keeps looking for Cupid
but she remains beyond his sites
the target on her heart has faded
and she's lost the sun in the lights

Judy aimed for love but her sites were out of alignment
her heart was on the market but the deal was just consignment
Judy loved to dance and shimmy to the rhythm of romance
but her movements went unnoticed by the masses as she swayed past

She wanted to play the dating game but she felt just a bit too stupid
she was dancing in her daydreams accidentily dodging Cupid
the arrows nearly missed her on a damned near daily basis
but hand grenades and horse shoes they fill up only empty spaces

so Judy just keeps looking for Cupid
but she remains beyond his sites
the target on her heart has faded
and she's lost the sun in the lights

Judy kept a journal jotted six pages a day
she'd doodle in the margins to illustrate what she had to say
she wasn't very eloquent despite her affinity for words
and her doodles were crude and childlike though she could draw some really cool birds

She liked to think up names for children the ones she'd one day hope to have
she wasn't partial to trendy names she liked the ones she thought would last
but Judy's family was incomplete the other members they just weren't there
so every day she prettied up and hoped to find someone who'd care

And Judy just keeps looking for Cupid
but she remains beyond his sites
the target on her heart has faded
and she's lost the sun in the lights
